Film Fest
Starter Dough

"Film Fest" was a last minute idea because we had all gotten together for the first time since completing "Starter Dough" and were eager to make another film. We decided since we were at the Red Deer film festival and our film didn't show until the 3rd day we might as well make a mocumentry about the festival. The only trick was our last film had taken us a couple of months. This one had to be completed in 24 hours, start to finish. The idea was we would shoot the second day of the festival, then edit that night and give it to the organizers with the idea they might show our little 3 minute piece to open the night and get things started. So we gave Monty a mic and he ran around asking people questions just like we were at Cannes. To the point that when Tavis and I were not watching him he phoned the wife of one of the judges (who he didn't know) and started asking for dirt on her husband. After that we kept a closer watch on him and had a great time, with half the people playing along with us, 25% taking us seriously and the other 25% just wondering what these 3 idiots were doing. In the end we finished shooting, stayed up all night editing and finished at noon the next day, then disaster struck. We could not out the movie to a VHS tape, no matter what we did it just would not work. So in the end we took them a CD copy and although the organizers were excited about it and liked the idea, their equipment would not play it, So our rush was for nothing, but we had a great time. Our disappointment turned to relief when we saw the quality of the films (Not to mention they ran for over 3 hours straight) so we were actually happy we didn't make a copy. Our relief was later turned to shock when we won Honorable mention for "Starter Dough." Tavis and I still wonder what Monty said to that judges wife.
